SO, without further ado...here goes my weird facts about me. (OBVS I found it hard to narrow down). . . 📷 As a child, I modelled. My local newspaper somehow thought I was heading for the big time. (What the 'big time' is for a child model, is still beyond me). Whatever it is...the ride was much slower than anticipated. . . 🌃 I once did a short stint as a singer in a risque burlesque show and would sing "Skyfall" from a trapeze in the early hours. . . 🎤 I used to front an electro-pop/rock band with my brother (we had synths and everything) and I was also the first to play a live rock gig on the rooftops of Parliament. . . 🎢 Sometimes Jasper and I stay up till midnight watching things like 'the world's top ten rollercoasters'. . . 🛥️ I managed to get a whole hen group on a yacht in Barcelona by pretending my best friend was someone called 'Princess Katherine Elizabeth III'. . . 💋 Craig McLachlan was my first kiss (it was on the cheek, and I was two). . . 👻 Growing up, I had imaginary ghosts as friends and kept all of their 'spiritual numbers' in a Filofax. Jupiter was my fave as he had such excellent listening skills. . . 🎟️ I once won four holidays abroad in one year. One of which, was featured on the Carlsberg Euros ads in 2016. (DM me for live reaction video...there's a genuine reaction of..." OMG, this is insane, I've won another one"). . .🕺🏻I once auditioned for S Club Juniors and didn't get past the first stage because I did the 'S' in the 'S Club' dance routine back to front. . . Are you taking your clients into the shower with y Are you taking your clients into the shower with you? 🚿 (Wait, what?) 😳 Reeewiiiind. ⏪ When I sat down in front of my first freelance client, and they asked me my hourly/day rates, I explained that they're never charging me for just the hour or the day because there's so much more going on than the physical time I spend putting into the work. For some of us, our clients are also buying the value of us: ✨ 💭 ...waiting on the train platform, wondering how we can really help them move forward? ✨ 💭 ...searching for the perfect podcast to listen to for inspiration on that topic while we commute to our next meeting. ✨ 💭 ...cooking dinner, musing on the right way to help them say what they really need to say? ✨ 💭 ...enjoying coffee with a marketing friend, bouncing ideas around on how we can make sure they stand out and prove to the world they're giving SO much value. ✨ 💭 ...Slacking them or the team Gifs because it's Wednesday and everyone knows how some 'Hump Days' feel! ✨ 💭 ...attempting with every fibre of our brain to get the work sent over early to allow us both more time for edits. ✨ 💭 ...squinting in the dark typing notes into our phone about the idea we just had for their campaign tagline so that we can finally get some sleep. Some people like to go in, get the job done and get out. "Invoice, please!" And this is absolutely fine. Some of us, however, can't HELP but pour our thoughts about companies into our cornflakes at breakfast time, crunching through ideas about those plans and projects. If this sounds like you, then find a way to let them know. And when it comes to invoicing, if you ever feel you're not charging the amount that reflects the 'mind time' you've put into it, then you're probably not. This is where (amongst other reasons) charging 'by the hour' lets us down. How do we charge for all of those other hours that we spend pondering and processing thoughts about their business? Those hours of care and consideration...show up right there IN the physical work. ✨ Disclaimer: I do schedule time to give my mind a break as an act of self-care! The @calm app is amazing for this.
